Around the world in 80 daysthird episode
The trio arrives in Hong Kong. A short stop before reaching Japan, their next destination. When Fogg (David Tennant) goes to the bank to buy tickets, he discovers that he cannot access his finances. So they are left without money and it is impossible to continue the journey. Passepartout (Ibrahim Koma), however, understands the reason for the unexpected event.
Fogg is the victim of a conspiracy: someone is plotting behind his back and is pushing him not to complete the 80-day trip around the world in time. And who knows, maybe the architect of the unexpected event is Nyle Bellamy (Peter Sullivan), the member of the English club with whom he made the bet, with a reward of 20,000 pounds.
Not bad, because in Hong Kong they discover that Fogg is a real celebrity. Thanks to the article written by Abigail (Leonie Benesch) and published on Daily Telegraph. Fix tells of Phileas’s feat and his lost love for him: two perfect ingredients to give him popularity. They meet Lady Clemency Rowbotham (Victoria Smurfit), the wife of the governor of the English colony, and Fogg hopes to obtain a loan to continue the adventure.
Fogg’s arrest and Passeparout’s secrets
During the stay it turns out that Passepartout has already been to Hong Kong. Thanks to his connections, they gain hospitality. She tells the landlady that Fix is her girlfriend and Fogg is her father-in-law. A lie with a good purpose. After that he meets a local man, from whom he asks for a loan. To obtain it, however, he must steal one of the governor’s wife’s jewels. However, life as a thief is part of his past. Therefore he refuses and is unknowingly saved by Fix.
So they show up at the governor’s reception, but they don’t get the money. Not because he refuses, but because a moment before signing, Fogg discovers that Abigail has been writing about her lost love. And that everyone present knows about her romantic affairs.
Hurt in pride, he immediately leaves the party without a penny. Furthermore, he feels betrayed by Fix. The morning after, Fogg is arrested on charges of stealing the white dragon, Lady Clemency’s jewel. Passepartout confesses the theft to Fix. And it is she, as always, who finds the right solution to get everyone out of trouble.
Around the world in 80 dayssixth episode
The sixth episode opens with Fogg, Fix and Passepartout aboard a lifeboat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Once they left Hong Kong, they boarded the Carnatic. Here a strange individual throws them off the ship. For the umpteenth time they risk dying, but the sea is merciful and after two days – the forty-seventh since the beginning of the journey – they find themselves on a desert island.
Fogg, instead of being happy for having saved his skin, loses hope. The challenge of traveling around the world in 80 days is proving to be a real nightmare. AND Feelings of guilt emerge for having brought Fix and Passepartout with him, also putting their lives at risk. Essentially, he falls into a deep depression. Fix, whose mother experienced the same drama before dying, understands this.
In the mood for confidences, Passepartout confesses what happened in Hong Kong and beyond. The valet did, in reality, act as a spy, but he did not do so maliciously. He committed the sin of superficiality. Angry and without food, they struggle to survive. And to make amends, the valet builds a raft that could give them salvation. Meanwhile, news of the shipwreck reaches England.
