Paris is showing the largest Juergen Teller show

With around 800 works, the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris says it is dedicating the most important exhibition in the world to date to the German photographer Juergen Teller. Celebrity portraits, fashion photos, family photos, nude self-portraits and videos are shown. Among the exhibits you can see his pictures that have long since become icons: actress Charlotte Rampling posing in the Eva costume in the Louvre, Teller lying naked on a donkey.

Teller is best known for his portrait photography. In Paris, the artist, who now lives in London, is showing a considerable number of them, from fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent to Berlin stage actor Lars Eidinger and Iggy Pop.

His personal photos are just as numerous, showing the 59-year-old in his underwear, as a toddler and with his wife Dovile Drizyte in Italy. Pictures show the couple in neon-colored work clothes on construction sites: sometimes in rubber boots, sometimes in suggested obscene positions.

The 10,000 square meter art gallery was extensively redesigned for the show “Juergen Teller. I need to live”, which runs until January 9th. The exhibition will be on display in Milan in the spring. (dpa)
