Prison sentence for father (63) and son (33) for renting out warehouse that contained a mega drug lab

63-year-old RD and his 33-year-old son DD received a prison sentence for renting out a warehouse in Anna Paulowna that turned out to contain a large drug lab. RD’s twin brother was also suspected, but he was acquitted. At the beginning of 2020, the mega drug lab was busted and amphetamine was found to be being produced.

The three were not only suspected of carrying out preparations for the drug lab, which includes renting out the warehouse, but also of running the lab. Yet in the end this could not be proven. Father and son were convicted of possessing amphetamine oil and 33-year-old DD was convicted of money laundering.

In the summer of 2019, local residents already smelled a strange odor near a house on Veerweg in Anna Paulowna. It sounded like acetone, or a chemical smell. According to the neighborhood, things also happened there that could not tolerate the light of day. It turned out that the house was already being monitored and six months later a drug lab was discovered.

Key figure

The D. family quickly became suspicious, as the house and the warehouse were their property and 33-year-old DD in particular was often found there. Justice suspected that the younger D. had contacts with a convicted ‘key figure’ on the drug market. There were high sentences for the twin brothers and the son of one of them: six and seven years in prison.

In her indictment, the public prosecutor emphasized the danger of a drug lab for the environment. “It gives a very unsafe feeling and must be combated strictly. The prospect must be a hefty punishment, in the hope that it has a deterrent effect. Because that this is and remains necessary, is evident from the many drug labs that are found. “

Punishment

The judge ultimately imposed the highest sentence on 33-year-old DD: a prison sentence of almost one and a half years (seventeen months), of which six months were conditional and a probationary period of two years. In addition, he must pay 5,000 euros due to the money laundering conviction. His father has to spend more than a year in prison, fourteen months, of which six months are also conditional and a probationary period of two years. For both, the time they have already spent in the cell during pre-trial detention will be deducted.

The third suspect, uncle and brother of the pair, has been acquitted of all charges.
