Thanks to Patrik Schick, Bayer Leverkusen achieved a record result in the Bundesliga at the end of the year. The “Werkself” had never managed 42 points in the first half of the season. The man of the day was Schick, who scored all the goals before half-time in his first starting eleven appearance in the Bundesliga for more than 14 months. First he converted a self-imposed penalty with a penalty kick (30th minute), less than two minutes later he scored in goalscoring style, then with a header after a corner kick (45th + 1). Victor Boniface, who came on for Schick, added two minutes after being substituted on (69′).

FC Bayern wins in Wolfsburg with all their might – a milestone for Musiala

FC Bayern Munich dragged itself into the winter break with the last of its strength. The German champions won 2-1 (2-1) at VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday evening, even without eight sick or injured professionals, and thus remain close to leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. Jamal Musiala reached a milestone in his 100th Bundesliga game. Only four players in history have accomplished this at a younger age.

Thanks to goals from Musiala (33rd minute) and Harry Kane (43rd), Bayern successfully concluded one of the most turbulent years in their club’s history. However, Maximilian Arnold’s 1:2 (45th + 1) spoiled their hope of a calm and relaxed second half. Because the Wolfsburg team pushed the visibly exhausted record champions further and further back.

VfB Stuttgart goes into the break with a club record

Thanks to its goal-scoring duo Serhou Guirassy and Deniz Undav, VfB Stuttgart successfully completed its successful football year and set a club record. A good six months after being relegated, the Swabians pushed past RB Leipzig with a 3-0 (2-0) win against FC Augsburg on Wednesday and said goodbye to the Christmas break in third place.

Undav (18th minute), Guirassy (45th + 1) and Chris Führich (69th) led the hosts to their eleventh success in the first half of the season, which only ended in January. Stuttgart have never had so many wins in the first half of the Bundesliga season – not even in 1991/92, when they became German champions.

The fact that VfB already has more points (34) than at the end of the entire last season (33) underlines the impressive development. At the beginning of June, the Swabians avoided a debacle in the relegation against Hamburger SV.

Eintracht turns the game against Gladbach – Heidenheim defeats Freiburg

With a very late double pack, Eintracht Frankfurt managed to say goodbye to the winter break on a happy note. Aurélio Buta (90.+2) and Robin Koch (90.+7) ensured the flattering 2-1 (0-1) against Borussia Mönchengladbach with their goals in stoppage time and prevented another setback for the Hessians in the fight for the European Cup places. The guests, however, missed the connection to Frankfurt and remain in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table.

Thanks to an own goal in stoppage time and despite a brace from Lucas Höler, SC Freiburg suffered a defeat at the end of the football year. The Baden team had to admit defeat 2:3 (1:0) in the state duel against 1. FC Heidenheim on Wednesday. Matthias Ginter ended up tumbling the ball over his own line (90th+2). Freiburg, who had previously won three times in a row in the Bundesliga, slipped out of the European Cup places. The upcoming break will probably come in handy because of their personnel problems.
