Oulu Kärpät has fired its head coach Lauri Marjamäki.
Kärpät announced its decision in a press release published on its website on Monday.
– The reason for canceling the contract is the sporting success that has not met the set goals, Kärpät justifies the decision in his announcement.
Kärpät is fifth in the regular season.
Kärpät says that a new head coach has not yet been hired to replace Marjamäki. Ville Mäntymaa for the time being, will coach the team forward in the regular season.
Marjamäki returned as Kärppie’s coach last year. He led the Oulu club to the Finnish championship in the spring of 2014 and 2015.
He was the head coach of the Lions from 2016 to 2018. During Marjamäki’s time, Finland did not win a single prestigious medal.
After the Lions, Marjamäki coached the Helsinki Jokers. Pesti ended when the Jokers withdrew from the KHL after Russia invaded Ukraine in February. Marjamäki went directly from Jokers to his finale today.
