Assen resident Jac Vuist participated in the Assen City Swim in 2017 to raise money for research into the muscular disease ALS. Not knowing that his brother-in-law Bernard would be told five years later that he had ALS.
Vuist has therefore decided to raise money again by literally walking around the block in his residential area of Marsdijk for twelve hours.
“I go out the front door and then I turn left three times. It’s a small circle. This morning at six o’clock the neighbor immediately walked along for a while. I hardly ever walk alone for a moment. And this afternoon my brother-in-law walked with me for a while. There it made me very emotional,” says Vuist.
The aim was to raise 2,500 euros, but that amount was already received this afternoon at 2 p.m. “Yesterday I received an envelope in the mail containing two euros. I found that very moving,” says Vuist.
Fist has raised around 4,400 euros so far, although donations can still be made. “Just amazing,” says Vuist about the amount raised. “You don’t know in advance what to expect. The number of donations is also very nice. About 180 people have donated, the support is unimaginable.”
