1. FC Kaiserslautern falls even deeper towards the second division relegation zone.
The FCK lost the basement duel at Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday with 1:2 (1:1) and is 15th in the table. one point ahead of the relegation place. Braunschweig spent the winter in a relegation zone, but moved within four points of their opponents.
Kaiserslautern didn’t fire a shot at the opponent’s goal in the first half – and yet the score was 1-1 because Robin Krauße (14′) extended an FCK free kick from Tymoteusz Puchacz into his own goal.
Rayan Philippe (36th) equalized after a well-played counterattack. Lautern completely missed the start of the second half and consequently conceded the second goal from Johan Gomez (62′). The supposed 2-2 by Ragnar Ache in stoppage time was overturned due to an offside position.
For a long time, the groundbreaking relegation duel was characterized by great caution, uncertainty and reluctance. After a lively opening phase, it was more important for both teams to avoid potentially crucial mistakes than to take risks themselves.
That changed in the second half, the table situation forced Eintracht to attack. Gomez and Thorir Helgason initially missed the best opportunities, the FCK was floundering, but the good goalkeeper Julian Krahl saved. But he was let down by the Braunschweig defense 2-1.
