The Euroleague defending champions were too strong for FC Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga basketball team clearly lost 73:88 (37:42) at Real Madrid on Thursday evening.
With six wins and eight defeats, the Munich team remains in the middle of the table in the premier class. The best Bayern shooter in Madrid was world champion Isaac Bonga with 15 points.
Tears from Bayern coach Pablo Laso
There was an ovation for Bayern coach Pablo Laso before the game. The Spaniard coached the capital club from 2011 to 2022 and became Spanish champions six times with Real as well as Euroleague winners in 2015 and 2018. The minutes of applause when he returned to Madrid for the first time even caused the 56-year-old to cry a few times.
Lead after ten minutes
His players weren’t accurate enough on the floor. Bonga only scored his first points after just under four minutes. Then Munich were in the game and, even without Andreas Obst, were ahead 23:19 after goals from distance (10th minute). The title contenders from Madrid turned the game around until the break (37:42/20.).
As at the beginning, Munich got off to a bad start in the third quarter. Real extended their lead to twelve points (45:57/26th). However, Bayern fought back and went into the final half with a six-point deficit (57:63/30.). How strong the sovereign Euroleague table leader is became clear in the fourth quarter. Real quickly broke away (59:77/36.) and won the game.
