What do you think: Dutch people should not fight in Ukraine

According to the ambassador of Ukraine in The Hague, a ‘significant number’ of Dutch people have reported to Ukraine to fight against Russia.

Ambassador Maksym Kononenko told De Telegraaf that he was amazed at the number of registrations. According to Kononeko, those applications came in before Ukraine’s President Zelensky announced the creation of a foreign legion. The ambassador does not want to say how many Dutch people have registered.

Allowed

Dutch people who want to fight in Ukraine can in principle take that step, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense told De Telegraaf. Their passport will not be confiscated. What is not allowed is enlisting in the army of the enemy, in a conflict to which the Netherlands is a party. That is not the case now. Soldiers are not allowed to join any other armed forces at all. “That’s desertion.”

What do you think? Is it a bad idea for Dutch citizens to report to the Foreign Legion in Ukraine?
