The NHL has announced on Monday that it will end economic cooperation with Russia. According to a press release published by the series, the termination of the business will take place immediately.

In addition to closing the business, the NHL will suspend its Russian-language news service for the time being. It will also stop planning events in Russia.

– The NHL condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and calls for a peaceful solution as soon as possible. We will immediately freeze our relationship with our business partners in Russia and suspend our Russian-language social and digital media site, the NHL says in a statement.

– We are also concerned about the well-being of Russian players who play for their NHL clubs and not for Russia. We understand that they and their families are in an extremely difficult situation.

Vladimir Putin Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been condemned around the world. Sanctions have also been imposed on Russia in the sports world. Previously, the International Hockey Federation excluded Russia and Belarus from all competitions under the union, which means they will not be seen at the upcoming World Cup.

The football associations Fifa and Uefa have also excluded Russia from all international competitions.

Former Czech NHL goalkeeper Dominik Hasek insists on Twitter that the NHL should shelv Russian players’ contracts.

– Athletes represent not only themselves and their club but also their country, its values and actions. If the NHL does not do so, it will be indirectly responsible for Ukraine’s death, Hasek writes.

– I am very sorry for the Russian athletes who condemn Putin’s and Russia’s actions in Ukraine. At the moment, however, I also consider it necessary to exclude them.
