Airplane builder Chris leaves Hilversum with his special plane and ‘lands’ at Teuge

Hilversum aircraft manufacturer Chris Rijff is moving from his small warehouse in his hometown to Teuge airport with his self-designed electric plane. Rijff wants to continue working on his special aircraft in a brand new modern hangar. “We have entered a new phase.”

Rijff has been working on his own plane called the Comorant SEAplane for years. This is partly made of wood, electric, sustainable and amphibious. The aircraft should eventually be able to carry eight people and serve as an air ambulance or cargo plane. What started as a hobby project in the small warehouse in the Hilversumse Vonk in the Wijk, is now really starting to take off. This is going so well that Rijff has outgrown the Hilversum breeding ground.

Teuge

At Teuge airport, Rijff will work in the brand new hangar of E-Deck, a company with which Rijff is working. “The hangar has fantastic facilities, so you can just focus on the aircraft,” says Rijff.

The area around Teuge should also give a proverbial boost to the company and its aircraft. The hangar is located on the so-called E-Campus. There are several companies in the area that work in the field of electric flying. For example, there is an E-flight Academy where you can learn to fly electric. “Such companies can make a difference in the development of the Comorant. We are then in the middle of the world of electric flying.”

It will take some time before Chris’ plane can take off, but it is not yet clear when. The wings will be put on the plane next year.

In March 2023, NH visited Chris Rijff’s warehouse in Hilversum.
