«SHe’s too depressed.” Three words that raised a fuss. They were spoken by Morgan against Fedez during the last live of X Factor 2023 on Sky. Words that struck the rapper but were not liked either by the public or the people of the web. And which arrive at the climax of an episode in which Morgan attacked practically everyone, from fellow judges to presenter Francesca Michielin to competitors in the competition.
Morgan to Fedez: «You’re too depressed»
It was Morgan himself who explained what happened during the episode. Fedez «had been sarcastic towards me all evening, I replied with equal sarcasm. At a certain point, towards the end, he lectured me and I said to him: “You should be my psychologist”. “That’s not the case,” he said. “Because you’re too depressed” I replied” explained the singer in a long video shared on Instagram.
Morgan: «I know depression well»
“I don’t want this to be misunderstood,” Morgan cuts short. «Using the word “depressed” is something I did ironically, but more towards myself than towards him. Depression is a state that I know very well because I have a long history of both personal and family depression. Don’t think that it was a desire to hit the patient because I am not required to refer to the medical records. I I don’t want to offend anyone. For me depression is a word that is important to use for a reason linked to my story: my father took his own life in 1988 due to something that today would be called depression but it wasn’t called that then” reveals the singer. Adding: «I believe that if it had been called depression he would still be here today, he would be 80 years old, or he would have died a natural death. But no, when he was 46 years old he took his own life because he had a depressive crisis.”
«Offending you was not in my spirit»
“The fact that I said depression is not a demeaning or negative thing towards those who experience this condition because I am the first to experience depression and to think that it is a condition of suffering” adds Morgan on social media. Then, turning to Fedez, he reiterates: «Offending you wasn’t in my spirit. And depression concerns us, I am the first to admit it and want to do something to oppose it».
The reaction of the followers
Yet not all followers agree. Many have read in those words a lack of delicacy towards the rapper who came out in the open about his mental health problems. «Perhaps in that context you were slightly indelicate» one user commented. It’s still: “It was all horrible. A truly bleak sight. Lack of respect for the kids, for the spectators, for each other».
