Champions League Women: Eintracht Frankfurt celebrates a dream start in Rosengard

As of: November 14, 2023 8:40 p.m

Successful start for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League: The Hessians win confidently away at Rosengard, but should have decided the game beforehand.

Eintracht Frankfurt started the Champions League with a win. The team won 2-1 (1-0) away at FC Rosengard on Tuesday evening. Tanja Pawollek took the lead in the 25th minute, Barbara Dunst increased before the end (84th). Olivia Schough shortened the score for the hosts in stoppage time (90th + 4th). The success for Eintracht was well deserved and could have been even greater.

After just 14 minutes, Verena Hanshaw had it 1-0, but put the ball over the box. Nicole Anyomi missed a cross in the 20th minute, but played a key role in the opening goal just five minutes later. The attacker won the ball and skillfully passed it to Pawollek, who pushed it from distance into the far corner. As she cheered, the captain pointed to her heart and toward the stands.

Anyomi an asset

Anyomi again came through well in the 34th minute, but missed the shot, as did Lara Prasnikar (43′). 12:0 shots on goal and 8:1 corners spoke clearly for Eintracht at the break. “The only shortcomings: We have to be quicker when switching and lead higher,” said assistant coach Kai Rennich.

Even after the break, Prasnikar missed the chance to increase the result. Frankfurt became more passive and were almost punished with the home team’s first serious opportunity: Mai Kadowaki put the ball dangerously on goal, Stina Johannes just steered it over the crossbar (63′). Things got even more dicey in the 78th minute when Hanna Andersson hit the crossbar.

Now Nuremberg and Barcelona are waiting

It wasn’t until the 84th minute that relief came: Dunst completed an attack via Laura Freigang to make it 2-0. In stoppage time, Schough punished the disarray in Frankfurt’s defense to score the goal (90’+3′). Overall, Eintracht appeared dominant, but rewarded themselves far too late. The Bundesliga continues next Saturday at 1. FC Nürnberg, and on Wednesday next week FC Barcelona comes to Hesse for the second matchday of the Champions League.
