DFB team: VfB Stuttgart’s Anton not disappointed because he wasn’t nominated

VfB central defender

VfB Stuttgart’s captain Waldemar Anton doesn’t hold any grudges because he wasn’t called up for the German national team again and wants to continue fighting for his chance. The Bundesliga club’s defender said he was “not disappointed at all” about the international matches against Turkey (November 18th) and Austria (November 21st), for which he was not considered by the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“I try to bring my performance to the pitch and always give 100 percent,” explained the VfB defense chief after the 2-1 (1-1) against BVB on Saturday. “That’s the only thing I can influence.” There are many good central defenders in Germany, says Anton. “I’m not crazy about it at all,” said the 27-year-old. “If it’s enough in the end and the national coach is convinced, it’s great. And if not, so be it.”

Anton has been one of the strongest players at VfB for weeks and is surprisingly in third place in the table. He has played eleven U21 international games for the DFB in his career, but has not yet played a game for the senior national team. When it comes to the most valuable German central defenders, Anton is in 14th place with 7 million euros – together with Yann Bisseck (22, Inter) and Felix Uduokhai (26, Augsburg).
