After around ten years together they separated – it was a “creative decision”.
For almost ten years, Jay Weinberg was part of Slipknot after their previous drummer Joey Jordison left the band. However, they have now made it public that they will go their separate ways from now on. The metallers announced this via social media.
“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the last ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay has honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band and the fans, appreciate that. But as always, Slipknot is eager to evolve. The band has decided to make a creative decision and part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited to see what the future holds,” her post reads. Shortly after publication, the posting was deleted again.
Weinberg recorded the three albums THE GRAY CHAPTER, WE ARE NOT YOUR KIND and THE END, SO FAR with Slipknot. He has not yet commented on the separation from the group.
More line-up changes
It’s not the first change in the band. The group only announced their separation from keyboardist Craig Jones in June 2023 – they did not give any specific reasons for this. The social post on the topic also disappeared after a short time.
In 2019, Slipknot also parted ways with percussionist and backing vocalist Chris Fehn, who (like Jones) had been with the band since its inception. Before the split, Fehn had sued the band for allegedly withholding income. Slipknot wrote about it on theirs website: “Chris knows why he is no longer a part of Slipknot. We are disappointed that he chose to point fingers and make claims instead of doing what was necessary to continue to be a part of Slipknot. We would have preferred if he had not taken this path, but advancement in all things is a necessary part of this life.”
Slipknot have not yet announced a replacement for Jay Weinberg. For now, the band only has one appearance planned at the Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas.
