The Berlin Volleys ended the intermediate round of the volleyball league with a win. On the sixth and final day of the game, coach Cedric Enard’s team won 3-1 (25:18, 23:25, 25:20, 25:23) at VfB Friedrichshafen in Neu-Ulm on Saturday evening.
It was already clear beforehand that the Berliners would move into the playoff quarter-finals as the sovereign first in their group of four. Opponents there on March 13th are the Grizzlies Giesen.
The BR Volleys started with a B formation. Setter Sergej Grankin and attackers Benjamin Patch, Ruben Schott and Timothee Carle took a seat on the bench. Middle blocker Jeffrey Jendryk stayed in Berlin to rest. A week before the cup final against Lüneburg, Friedrichshafen did not have the best line-up either.
Both teams struggled for long stretches to bring clear structures into their game. In the beginning, the guests performed in a more coordinated and spirited manner, which was also reflected in the clear win in the first set. In the second round, the Berliners caught up a four-point deficit (12:16), but after an ace by Marek Sotola, they were unable to convert a 20:19 lead into a set.
It was bitter for BR Volleys that Nehemiah Mote limped off the field injured in the fourth set at 10:13. Diagonal attacker Benajmin Patch came on and played a big part in his side avoiding the tie break.
