Real Madrid gives up league lead

Real Madrid lost its lead in the Primera División.

In the small city derby against Rayo Vallecano, the Spanish football record champions did not get beyond a disappointing 0-0 draw despite good chances at their home Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

The new leaders are FC Girona, who are two points ahead of cup winners Real and four ahead of champions FC Barcelona after matchday 12.

Against the guests from the Vallecas district, which is almost nine kilometers away from the Bernabéu Stadium, coach Carlo Ancelotti relied on the German national player Antonio Rüdiger in central defense in the starting line-up, with Toni Kroos coming on as a substitute in the 72nd minute. But even with the 2014 world champion on the pitch, the Royals were no longer able to score.
