1. FC Union Berlin remains deep in crisis – even against Eintracht Frankfurt there were no points for the Iron Men in the end, who remain deep in the bottom of the Bundesliga table after their twelfth competitive defeat in a row. The 0:3 (0:2) was apparent early on, Omar Marmoush scored two early goals (2nd/14th). Nacho Ferri made the decision (82nd) for very effective Hessen.
Berlin still only has six points after ten games this season and is in the middle of a relegation battle. “We know it’s our own fault. We have to keep going. But of course it’s difficult. The longer the phase lasts, the less self-confidence you have,” said Union captain Christopher Trimmel to the Sportschau. Eintracht Frankfurt, on the other hand, is on course for the European Cup with 17 points.
It took just under 120 seconds for Marmoush to take the lead from Chaïbi’s free-kick cross with a precise shot. Union dealt with the early setback well, but made a terrible defensive blunder in the 14th minute, which promptly led to 0-2. “In the first quarter of an hour we make the same mistakes or repeat mistakes,” Union coach Urs Fischer said in frustration at the Sportschau microphone.
Union unlucky a few times
As a result, Berlin took control and could have scored, but Urs Fischer’s team didn’t really score. On top of that, there was some bad luck when Fofana hit the crossbar (19th).
Even after the break, Union had some good chances. First Fofana was denied by goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (59′), then Kevin Behrens headed just wide of the goal (68′). On the other hand, Frankfurt did better again. Nacho Ferri converted one of Eintracht’s few chances to make it 3-0 (82′), so in the end the Berliners were left empty-handed again.
