DFB Cup: Kaiserslautern eliminates Cologne, HSV is shaking in round 3

Gladbach win against FCH

Defeat for 1. FC Cologne, big football evening for 1. FC Kaiserslautern: After a spectacular fight, the Cologne team and coach Steffen Baumgart suffered the next sporting blow. The Bundesliga 17th lost the cup second round game in Kaiserslautern on Tuesday evening 2:3 (0:1) – unlike the 0:6 at RB Leipzig on Saturday, the “Effzeh” fought back from an early deficit this time, but the early exit hits Baumgart and his struggling team hard.

On the Palatinate side, Richmond Tachie (19th minute), Kenny Prince Redondo (47th) and Marlon Ritter (65th) scored. In front of 49,327 spectators in the sold-out Fritz Walter Stadium, the atmosphere at times was like that of the Bundesliga days. On the 103rd birthday of club legend Fritz Walter, who died in 2002, there were many reminders of earlier heydays at Betzenberg.

For Cologne, the goals from Jan Thielmann (71st) and Mark Uth (81st) came too late. The fact that Eric Martel (79th) was sent off late for indiscipline on the bench and Florian Kainz (84th) for a hard start fit into the mixed overall picture. The upcoming Bundesliga games against Augsburg on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky) and on November 11th in Bochum are becoming increasingly important for Baumgart and his team. The “Effzeh” is currently experiencing difficult sporting days.

The fans initially saw both teams testing each other in the opening quarter of an hour. Timo Hübers headed the ball over the FCK goal after four minutes, Boris Tomiak put the ball next to the Cologne goal one minute. Tachie’s opening goal then freed the hosts. His shot from around 20 meters was deflected unstoppably into the Cologne goal by Hübers. After Dejan Ljubicic’s bad pass, Terrence Boyd had the chance to make it 2-0, but finished too hastily (34′).

DFB Cup: Effortless Gladbach win against weak Heidenheim

Borussia Mönchengladbach made it into the round of 16 without any significant resistance against Bundesliga newcomers 1. FC Heidenheim with no chance. On Tuesday, Gerardo Seoane’s team confidently won the first division duel 3-1 (3-0). Three days after Gladbach’s 2-1 win in the Bundesliga game against Heidenheim, the cup duel was already decided before the break.

Jordan Siebatcheu with a brace (3rd minute/9th) and Robin Hack (44th) consistently took advantage of Heidenheim’s blatant defensive errors in front of almost 42,000 spectators. Substitute Adrian Beck’s Heidenheim goal (78th) wasn’t enough.

In the meantime, Unterhaching celebrated the two goals from Patrick Hobsch (34th/55th/foul penalty) and Simon Skarlatidis (71st).

DFB Cup: HSV shakes up another round at Arminia

Hamburger SV had to worry about reaching the round of 16 against third division club Arminia Bielefeld for a long time. After 90 minutes it was 1-1 at the Alm, and no goals were added in extra time. Only the penalty shootout brought the decision when Hamburg keeper Matheo Raab parried Bielefeld’s last shot from Marius Wörl.

Bakery Jatta (77th) equalized East Westphalia’s opening goal by Nicklas Shipnoski (11th minute) a few moments after coming on as a substitute. At Arminia, Fabian Klos initially missed in the penalty shootout, Elijah Krahn’s missed shot had no consequences for HSV.
