Late winning goal: Prtajin redeems Wiesbaden against Hansa Rostock

As of: October 29, 2023 4:59 p.m

SV Wehen Wiesbaden defeated Hansa Rostock late and narrowly in the 2nd Bundesliga. Hansa also missed a penalty.

It was a groundbreaking second division game for both teams, as the aim was to stay away from the relegation relegation zone after Schalke’s 3-2 win against Hannover 96. The man of the game for newly promoted Wiesbaden on Sunday (October 29th, 2023) was substitute Ivan Prtajin, who scored the goal of the day in the 89th minute for a 1-0 (0-0) victory.

Wiesbaden (15 points) moved into midfield thanks to their success. After six defeats from the last seven games, Hansa (12) is now only two points clear of the relegation place that Schalke occupies.

Hansa’s coach criticizes his offensive

After the game, Hansa’s coach Alois Schwartz was annoyed by his team’s many missed opportunities: “Then you’ll be punished in the 89th if you don’t do anything. If it doesn’t go well, that’s added to that. It’s a results sport, then you’ll be accounted for. You also have to do something up front, we’re just too harmless .”

Wiesbaden’s Iredale misses a huge opportunity

Wehen Wiesbaden made the first exclamation mark in the pouring rain after just 90 seconds. A perfect deep pass was achieved John Iredalewho shot the ball from a half-left position from the edge of the penalty area over Hansa goalkeeper Markus Kolke just wide of the goal.

Hansa then took control and created some good chances. After a corner, Aleksandar Vukotić (9th minute) headed the ball one meter past the Wiesbaden goal, a minute later a slightly deflected shot from Nils Fröling from 20 meters missed the target by just millimeters, then missed Juan Jose Perea a cross pass into the six-yard box.

SVWW keeper Stritzel saves self-inflicted Penalty kick

After half an hour, Wiesbaden was standing Keeper Florian Stritzel in the spotlight. As he teeed off, he elbowed Perea, who was standing behind him, in the neck. At first the game continued, then referee Christian Dingert looked at the scene again on the screen after the VAR intervened. Consequence: yellow for Stritzel and penalty. The goalkeeper made amends for his mistake and saved the penalty shot weakly by Christian Kinsombi.

Wiesbaden coach Markus Kauczinski later praised his goalkeeper when he took the penalty: “He also owed it to him, so he should keep it. He is a strong support, not just today, but over the last few weeks. There were one or two shots that he parried brilliantly. He is in the shape of his life.”

Strong save from Rostocks Kolke

The bottom line is that Hansa had significantly better chances in the first round, but didn’t exactly shine with effectiveness – just like Wiesbaden didn’t at the start of the second round. With a shot from Iredale (48.) Hansa goalkeeper Kolke stretched and steered the ball just around the post. Seconds later, Amar Ćatić blasted the ball over the crossbar from twelve meters.

Hansa lost control of the game in this phase, Wiesbaden now clearly dominated, but initially didn’t do anything with it. Overall, the rule for both teams was: a lot of effort, little return. Ultimately, the difference was made by Prtajin, whose late goal shortly before the end of regular time caused endless celebration among the Wiesbaden team.
