Daft Punk deny reunion for Olympic Games ceremony

The artistic director of the opening ceremony hinted at a reunion, but Daft Punk didn’t want to.

The Olympic Games will take place in Paris in the summer of 2024. For many spectators, the opening ceremony is just as important a part as the sporting disciplines themselves. Very few people miss the fireworks and the elaborate performance. After Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the opening ceremony, appeared on the radio station “France Inter” on Wednesday (October 25th), he raised some hopes for a Daft Punk reunion. However, a comeback for the event has now been officially denied.

Jolly said on the radio show that he would be “very happy if they were at the ceremony.” “We can’t help but think of Daft Punk when we think of an international display of France,” the creative director continued. The electro duo was his first idea, after all they are “extremely talented and have a great international appeal”. Although he made it clear at the end that he had “lied a bit” about the involvement of the French house musicians, the French daily “Le Parisien” probably fueled the rumors even further. According to an anonymous source, they claimed that the artists met with the planning committee “several months ago.”

“This is a rumor and not true,” a representative of the duo, consisting of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, tells the American ROLLING STONE. Daft Punk split up in 2021 after releasing a final “Epilogue” video. They last appeared at the Grammy Awards in 2017, where they performed The Weeknd feature tracks “Starboy” and “I Feel It Coming” together.
