DIHK sees no signs of a real upswing

The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry currently sees no signs of a real, self-sustaining economic upswing. “On the contrary: the companies have revised both their important investment plans and their employment intentions downwards – both into the red,” explained Managing Director Martin Wansleben on Thursday in Berlin. More than one in three companies expected worse business in the next twelve months.

In the autumn economic survey, companies were critical of, among other things, the federal government’s economic and location policy. More than half see the economic policy framework as a business risk. “It is particularly alarming that we have also measured this value in industry for the first time,” emphasized Wansleben.

In addition to the weakened economy, there are currently structural challenges such as geopolitical risks, the problem of skilled workers, technological upheavals, climate change and energy policy. The companies would therefore very much like “politicians to simply press the reset button and use the existing potential,” explained Wansleben. According to the DIHK, the survey is based on feedback from 24,000 companies from almost all industries and regions. (dpa)
