That’s why this Hertha star Reese shoots at the empty goal

Will he hit the mark any more soon?

Hertha star Fabian Reese (25) has been completing unusual additional units for a few weeks. The winger of the table 11th. In the 2nd league, after regular training with the team, he often spends time on the Schenckendorffplatz to hone his shooting technique.

Reese relies on a special measure: he shoots at an empty goal. Together with goalkeeping coach Andreas Menger (51), Reese prepares the ball from different positions and then shoots again and again. He wants to improve his technique and shooting accuracy. He doesn’t need a goalkeeper on the other side.

Shots at an empty goal – this has happened before at Hertha. In 2015, coach Pal Dardai (47) let ex-striker Sandro Wagner (35, now assistant to national coach Nagelsmann) practice shots alone on the pitch while the team trained next door. While that was a clear signal for Wagner at the time to look for a new club, Reese is completing his special program voluntarily and wants to constantly improve.

The ambitious winger is one of the few Hertha professionals who regularly shows good performances in the second division. So far he has contributed three goals and two assists, most recently scoring in the 2-1 win at Schalke.

Reese, who had already agreed to a move to the then first division club Hertha in the winter, has also established himself in Berlin off the field. He is one of the fans’ new favorites and a face of the club.

And he also hits the bull’s eye in terms of fashion: Reese, who likes to dress in vintage fashion, recently had his own photo shoot in the popular magazine “Sports Illustrated”.
