Comes as assistant from Feyenoord
Champions League participant Shakhtar Donetsk has a new coach. As the Ukrainian champions announced on Tuesday, Marino Pusic is taking over the team. The 52-year-old Dutchman with Bosnian roots has been an assistant at Feyenoord Rotterdam since 2021 and played his part in winning the championship there last season. In Donetsk he now follows his compatriot Patrick van Leeuwen.
Shakhtar is Pusic’s second stop as head coach: in the 2018/19 season he was on the sidelines at Dutch side Twente Enschede. He takes over Donetsk in third place in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Kryvbas Kryvyi Rig. Pusic celebrates his premiere on Wednesday (6.45 p.m.) in the group phase of the “premier class” at FC Barcelona.
