Denise Herrmann-Wick looks back on an extremely successful biathlon career. At the last World Championships, the ex-ski hunter fulfilled her big dream of winning a gold medal in front of her home crowd. A moment that still remains in her special memory.
“I’m actually still at a loss for words,” revealed Herrmann-Wick to “rbb”. The 34-year-old won the sprint at the start of the biathlon festival in Oberhof.
“That was unbelievable – that it runs in the family […], at home, with everyone on the side of the track, can finally experience it again. “It was just perfect – a great ending,” said Herrmann-Wick, looking back on the big day. The ex-biathlete won the silver medal in the subsequent pursuit and in the relay.

In the spring she finally hung up her skis and her equipment. From now on, Herrmann-Wick follows the sport of biathlon from the role of spectator.
“It’s a bit strange perhaps: I still do a lot of sport – but of course not with a big goal, but just sport for pleasure,” she gave an insight into her new everyday life.
However, Herrmann-Wick remains connected to her long-standing passion. “I will then also be there live – but from a different perspective,” revealed Herrmann-Wick: “I’ll be at a few World Cups with my partner Viessmann. I’m looking forward to still being close to the team and keeping my fingers crossed to press.”
