Coach Sebastian Hoeneß from VfB Stuttgart doesn’t want to be blinded by the negative series of his upcoming opponent.

It was “deceptive,” said the 41-year-old two days before the game against 1. FC Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky). The Köpenick team recently suffered seven competitive defeats in a row. However, only one of them was “really deserved,” said Hoeneß: the unfortunate 1-0 defeat in the Champions League at Real Madrid in mid-September.

Union had “a lot to offer,” explained the Stuttgart coach. In addition, important players – midfielder Rani Khedira and defensive lineman Robin Knoche, for example – are about to return.

Of course the series is there and will do something with the Berlin players, said Hoeneß. His own team, which has recently won five times in a row and is surprisingly second in the table, has to make the opponent think.

Question marks surround the appearances of VfB defender Hiroki Ito (back problems) and substitute goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow (hip contusion). Hoeneß was more confident with Ito than with Bredlow. Full-back Josha Vagnoman is still out.
