Radio host Kim Sainio tells Iltalehte what is particularly difficult to get used to in MS.
Radio presenter Kim Sainio50, shared Instagram-in his publication, a breathtaking picture of his everyday life with MS. Sainio has had this disease for 17 years.
In the picture he published, Sainio is sitting in a wheelchair in Malaga’s Plaza Mayor shopping center. The presenter started using a wheelchair about a month ago in September.
– Not used to this yet. It is very difficult to learn new nuances of movement. Still happy, he writes in his post.
Iltalehti caught up with Sainio, who answered the phone in the middle of filming. He says that moving abroad with a wheelchair has gone great when there have been helpful colleagues around.
– There have been helpful people in the working group who push this (wheelchair) forward. These are not nice easy-to-roll gadgets, but more like hospice chairs. The colleagues are great – both here and on the radio, he praises.
– Yes, I have moved here myself, but I have to walk quite carefully, he adds.

Sainio feels that the ease or difficulty of movement depends entirely on the day – MS is a multifaceted disease. The presenter describes his current condition as good enough that he is still able to do work for himself and his spouse Mari Sainion50, working on projects.
However, he admits that he can no longer manage without aids.
– The disease has currently progressed to the stage where aids are needed. The biggest innovation in my life has been agreeing to use them. It makes my life easier and I’m not negative about these. I am more in the mood that when a person loses his ability to exercise, there are devices designed by wise people to help, Sainio opens.
– At first I didn’t agree (to use aids). In the end, it was easy because I realized that the benefits outweigh the harms, he continues.

According to the radio host, it is particularly difficult for him to get used to the fact that sometimes he has to sit down, and the body no longer moves in the same way automatically.
– You have to learn a completely new trajectory. It’s funny and annoying at the same time. But this is not the kind of constant crying into one’s sleeve, but learning something new, and at the same time being annoyed, he opens.
Despite the challenges brought by the disease, Sainio has maintained his optimistic attitude.
– It’s not going anywhere. One can’t help but be optimistic when one has such a wonderful wife, he praises his spouse in passing.
– I don’t think you can be a marathoner at the moment. But I’m not going to give up, I consider my current situation as a temporary part of the chain of events, he concludes.
Information package about MS
Health Library according to MS is a disease of the central nervous system that affects the ability to exercise and function.
In an autoimmune disease, the body attacks its own tissues by forming antibodies. In this case, the antibodies are directed against the nerve branches of the white matter of the brain or spinal cord and the myelin sheath that surrounds them.
There is no curative treatment for the disease, but current drug treatments can influence its prognosis and the course of the wave-like type of MS.
