Basically, the nice thing about ROLLING STONE Beach is that it’s not a laborious festival where you’re completely exhausted after two days, but rather a wonderfully relaxed one. However, this time on Friday evening it could be a bit stressful if you don’t want to miss anything. At least I will rush to Möwenbräu directly after Tocotronic’s performance (in the tent of course) to see Tristan Brusch. His album “Am Wahn” is one of the best albums of 2023 – demanding and fascinating, opulent and full of delightful details. It’s worth listening carefully!
Tristan Brusch, born in Gelsenkirchen and living in Berlin, tells of a catastrophic love on his fourth album. He doesn’t spare any misfortune, but you’re happy to endure it, because his melodies are so wonderfully voluptuous, they fluctuate between pop, chanson and a bit of fairground, always excitingly close to the edge. Brusch can use pianos and strings, gentle guitars or entire orchestras: his pieces never give in to kitsch, they are simply romantic from the bottom of their hearts.
It will be exciting to see how he brings them to the small stage because they are actually so big. But that’s exactly what makes great music: that it works everywhere. And who knows – this may be the last opportunity to see him up close. A world career began on the smallest stage on Weissenhäuser Strand – Ed Sheeran played there in 2011. Just saying!
