Lauren Verster has never been tackled in such a harsh manner: she has been declared the worst TV presenter and a professional jury calls her a failed peripheral figure. “She’s nothing at all!”
They have been around for a few years now: The TV Knollen, a fun prize from the trade site Speaking tube which is awarded every year one day before the Televizier gala to the worst program and the worst presenter of the year. The winners this year? Gillis family: Massa is Kassa and the 43-year-old presenter Lauren Verster.
Failed peripheral character
What do jury members Rob Goossens, Richard Otto and Rens Muller say about her? “Lauren has been able to last 15 years on television, but how long can the viewer put up with her?” they begin.
Well, that sounds grim, but that’s not all. “It’s a well-known TV trick: give peripheral characters a program with the presenter’s first name and the viewer will actually think that the presenter represents something. For Lauren Verster, that treatment failed hopelessly.”
Dennis and Patrick
Oops, oops, oops. Hopefully Lauren has the Kleenex within reach. Who else was in the running in this category? One Sahil Amar Aïssa and the SBS 6 faces Patrick Martens and Dennis van der Geest. “Everything he touches turns to scrap so far,” they say about Patrick.
And about Dennis: “He shouts that he has now outgrown the title of ex-judoka. Then let him finally prove with a hit why we should label him as a TV presenter.”
What does Tina think?
What does Tina Nijkamp think of all this? She seems to agree with the price for Lauren. “Her program was only in the repeat this year and flopped mercilessly last fall with less than 100,000 viewers on NPO 3. By the way, Lauren is no longer a TV presenter for the time being. The AvroTros has no plans in the schedule with her.”
She does not agree with the choice of Family Gillis: Massa is Kassa, she continues analysis channel. “Moreover, the subject does not fit on TV and certainly not on a family channel. Personally, I think Veronica’s worst program is Downhill with Moïse Trustfull and JayJay Boske. That was simply unbroadcast.”
