The Palestinian Hamas movement launched a “military operation” against Israel this morning, with hundreds of rocket attacks and armed fighters entering Israeli territory. Both Hamas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speak of a war. The Israeli army declared a state of war and responded with retaliatory strikes. According to Israeli rescue services, 70 Israelis have died so far and at least 780 have been injured. On the Palestinian side, at least 198 have been killed and more than 1,600 have been injured.
