When looking for a successor to Thomas Reis, who was released last week, Schalke 04 have apparently found what they are looking for in Belgium. A report from the “PictureAccording to the crisis, the second division team is in advanced talks with Karel Geraerts. The 41-year-old Belgian is currently without a club; he most recently worked at Royale Union Saint Gilloise until the summer.
In the past season – his only one as the main coach – Geraerts reached the runner-up position with Union, only losing the title in a heart-stopping final on the last match day. The club then parted ways with the former professional, who had previously been an assistant on the sidelines for three years.

According to the report, Geraerts is now about to start at Schalke 04. After discussions with sports director Peter Knäbel and sports director André Hechelmann, the signature is now just a formality.
