Geertje can be seen in fake news video: ‘I don’t want anything to do with it’

A misleading news video with images from NOS and Omroep Brabant is circulating on social media. The video promotes a game with which you could earn a lot of money. Geertje from Son en Breugel can be seen in the images of Omroep Brabant. She was interviewed in 2018 about a completely different topic. “I’m just really not looking forward to this.”

In 2015, Geertje won the Postcode Lottery street prize with her street. Three years later, Omroep Brabant visited the street, because the street price would fall again that week in Son en Breugel. A reporter from Omroep Brabant asked people in Geertje’s street what had changed for them after they won.

“I thought: it will blow over.”

Geertje was sent the video for the first time at the end of August this year. “I was just stunned. What is this? I then tried to find where the video came from and whether I could do something to stop it. But that didn’t work. So I thought: it will pass. ”

But it didn’t. By now telling her story to Omroep Brabant, she hopes to make it clear once and for all that she had nothing to do with the video.

Geertje would never have expected that her statements to Omroep Brabant would be used in a misleading video five years later. “I never thought about the interview again and suddenly it pops up.”

“It’s a lie and that’s just not nice.”

She finds it very annoying. “But I’m not that important yet. It’s much worse that it damages the name of the NOS and that presenter (Annechien Steenhuizen) and Omroep Brabant. But yes, I also appear full of my face on screen. It’s just stupid “I don’t want anything to do with it. It’s a lie and that’s just not nice.”

Geertje would ideally like the video to be removed from social media. “But that’s not possible. And fortunately the images are still quite innocent. I don’t mind people seeing those images, but I find the way they are used very annoying.”

This is the fake news video making the rounds on Instagram and Facebook.
