SC Verl has moved away from the relegation places in the 3rd league with a win in the East Westphalia derby against Arminia Bielefeld.
Verl won 3-1 (2-0) on Tuesday evening in front of 5,207 spectators in the sold-out Sportclub Arena and climbed to 15th place, at least for the time being. Bielefeld, on the other hand, slipped to 18th place with its fifth defeat of the season.
Early lead for Verl
Both teams made double changes compared to the previous match day. At Verl, Luca Unbehaun was in goal instead of Tom Müller and Marcel Mehlem replaced Maximilian Wolfram. Bielefeld started with Nassim Boujellab and Leandro Putaro, who pushed Marius Wörl and Nicklas Shipnoski out of the starting eleven.
The home team got off to a perfect start and took the lead in the 6th minute. Oliver Batista-Meier appeared free in front of Jonas Kersken and scored 1-0 from ten meters without any problems. Arminia responded with furious attacks on the deficit. Putaro (8th) and Sarenren Bazee (16th) tested Unbehaun in the SCV goal, but could not overcome him. The guests also had more of the game in the period that followed, but it wasn’t really compelling. The duels became increasingly rough, which resulted in yellow cards for Putaro and Michel Stöcker.
The SC Verl only made pinpricks forward, but was spectacularly successful with one of them: Nico Ochojski won the ball at the halfway line, ran forward down the right side and then hammered the ball under the crossbar with a powerful shot from an acute angle (43. ).
Klos gives Bielefeld hope, Otto with the decision
Arminia made two substitutions at the start of the second half. Wörl and Aygün Yildirim came into the game for Kaito Mizuta and Sarenren Bazee. But even though Bielefeld got into the game better after initial difficulties, they initially didn’t create any dangerous scoring chances until the goal came out of nowhere. Fabian Klos extended a free kick from the right side into the Verler goal with his toe (62′). Arminia gained new courage with the goal and increased the pressure again.
Semi Belkahia (70th), substitute Leon Schneider (70th) and Klos (72nd) had header chances, but were unable to put them on goal. Lokotsch almost made it all clear for Verl in the 79th minute when he got past Kerske but then missed the goal. But the anger over the missed opportunity didn’t last long, because just a minute later Yari Otto scored with a shot from 17 meters to make it 3-1 (80th). With that the game was decided.
