Thomas Müller is used to winning at FC Bayern: with twelve championship titles in 15 seasons, the Bavarian is the sole record holder in the Bundesliga (for championship statistics). In the top game at RB Leipzig on Saturday (6.30 p.m./Sky), the attacker can set another record, the 322nd victory in Germany’s top division.
Hummels in 6th place: player with the most Bundesliga wins
For Bayern Munich (245/322), FC Schalke 04 (77/156)
Müller celebrated success number 321 in the 7-0 win against VfL Bochum. After a strain put him out of action during Bayern’s cup win in Münster during the week, he is expected to be part of the squad in Leipzig. And the 34-year-old national player could draw level with teammate and record holder Manuel Neuer in his 448th Bundesliga appearance. However, in the last three meetings there were two RB wins and one draw.
The Bayern goalkeeper, who is not yet fit for action after breaking his leg, has 322 wins in 478 Bundesliga games for Munich and Schalke. Since Neuer won’t be back in goal until October at the earliest, Müller could replace him as the sole record holder by then. There is another active player in the top 10: Mats Hummels (258 wins). With 16 more wins this season, the BVB defender can draw level with Robert Lewandowski (274), with whom he played together in both Dortmund and Munich.
Müller recently reached a milestone in the Champions League. In the 4-3 win against Manchester, he became the first German footballer to reach the mark of 100 wins in Europe’s premier class. Before Müller, only Cristiano Ronaldo (115 wins) and goalkeeper legend Iker Casillas (101) broke the hundred mark.
