Things are not going well for André Hazes Jr.’s career. He hoped to gain some kind of legendary status through his long rehab holiday. That he was gone for so long that people would jump all over it afterwards. According to insiders, he modeled himself on Adele, who also works that way.

No success

Nothing could be further from the truth: André’s comeback concert is still not sold out after six months and his new music is also hardly streamed. RTL Boulevard has made entire articles about that.

Does he find that annoying? André in the LINDA: “Not really, because it’s just true. That music is not yet being listened to at top levels and the concerts are no longer sold out within a minute. I have made the choice to make a different kind of music and I can hardly expect my fans to immediately think that is a good idea.”

Reality check

It is what it is, says André. “I’ve been out for two years and have to start from the bottom again. That reality check is good for me, after I started to miss my shoes for a while and thought that I was completely the man. I have now consciously chosen to only do three shows in the Netherlands this year.”

There doesn’t seem to be much more enthusiasm. “I would have preferred to have forty planned immediately, but I first want to see how it goes,” says the folk singer.

Drink and drugs

André does not rule out that he will stop singing after all. “If performing causes me to be tempted to drink and use drugs again, I will stop immediately – and forever. Hopefully that is not the case and I will continue making music for a long time.”

He concludes: “I believe that people will also like my new songs.”
