Tokayev announced casualties as a result of riots in Kazakhstan – RBK

Mass attacks on law enforcement officers during the protests led to the fact that among the security forces there are dead and wounded, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said in an address to the nation. The broadcast was conducted by the Khabar 24 TV channel.

He said that “crowds of militant elements” were beating up soldiers, driving them naked through the streets, raping women and robbing shops. Tokayev noted that the situation threatens the safety of residents of Almaty and other regions.

The President said that the riots are being organized by financially motivated conspirators who are carefully considering a plan of action.

In the largest city of Kazakhstan, Alma-Ata, 190 people turned to doctors, the Department of Public Health previously reported, conveyed TV channel “Khabar 24”. Of these, 40 people were hospitalized, another seven victims were in intensive care. Among the injured were 137 police officers and 53 civilians.
