From nowhere, the young Marieke Schenk appeared on stage two years ago. Not long after, she stood in Jamming and told them she wanted to be an artist. The Tynaarlose is now working hard on her career.

Last time in Jamming it emerged that playing in a band was seen as the first step towards a professional music career. That goal has now been achieved.

She practiced at home for months with just a guitar and her voice, but at a certain point Schenk discovered that something was missing. Her music had to be bigger. A band would provide a solution. “Two guitars do more than one and it just sounds much better,” she explains. “It gives me a lot more energy and that gives me a lot more energy and that means I can radiate it much better.”

The band is now there, but that search did not happen automatically. The Tynaarlose has taken all kinds of paths to find musicians. “Through musician banks and such. I don’t actually remember. Via all kinds of websites, via Instragram, Facebook, no idea. But I succeeded and I am very happy with that,” she laughs enthusiastically.

The fact that she came from nowhere, without musical experience and is now on stage with a band, may be due to her open-minded attitude. “I dare to just sign up for things and then see if it works,” Schenk explains. “I think that’s a good direction. If you can play, just go for it. And more and more in that way.” So far, her plan is paying off.

A musical career involves releasing music and Schenk and her band are also busy with that. “We’re going to record in October,” she says. “Then I’m going to make an EP and I’m really looking forward to that. The songs will then gradually be released as singles.”

One of those new songs is In the light. “That’s a song I wrote with my guitarist,” Schenk says. “He came up with the idea and I thought, ‘Oh, this sounds cool.'”
