Treccani Festival of the Italian Language, the theme is Amazement
At the center of this sixth edition will be Amazement. Perfect word for a Festival like this. Given that, as Donatella Di Cesare, professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the Sapienza University of Rome, explains, language is amazement: «It is that prodigious event which, while taking place at every moment, it allows you to be in the midst of a world and to be inscribed in history.”
The term “Astonishment” refers to the sensation that follows an unusual event, the effect of wonder that can lead us to an awakening, but also numbness that follows the disruption of everyday lifefollowing which finding your way around and finding orientation is difficult.
From classical Greece to “fashionable” lexical inventions
In amazement classical Greece saw the origin of philosophical knowledgeit accompanies the artistic and religious experience, but it can also be sign of passivitythe result of an attitude that does not notice the constants of the surrounding world, and therefore allows itself to be amazed.
But the word Stupore is, first of all, the means through which to access the field of linguistic research, in a world in which the proliferation of new forms of language, the transformation of traditional syntactic structures and daily violations and lexical inventionsoften destined for ephemeral life and circulation, cannot help but amaze.

During the four days, interventions are planned numerous different personalities. In addition to Donatella Di Cesare, the philosopher Francesca Rigotti, the linguists Giuseppe Antonelli, Michele Cortelazzo, Valeria Della Valle, Andrea Moro and Giuseppe Patota, Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça. The literary and historical criticism of Italian literature Lina Bolzoni, the writer Paolo Di Paolothe ethologist Enrico Alleva and the entrepreneur Oscar Farinetti.

But there will also be three concerts, in Piazza Garibaldi. Thursday 1 September – Diodate with Valentina Farinaccio. Friday 2 September – Margherita Vicario with Elena Stancanelli. Saturday 23 September – Nada talks with Paolo Di Paolo.
