He Barcelona’s town hall has been able to verify that the complaints from Camp Nou residents about the schedule of the remodeling works at the FC Barcelona stadium are justified. Two municipal inspections have verified in recent weeks that work was carried out at hours that are not permitted and have initiated a disciplinary file.

As confirmed to EL PERIÓDICO by Barcelona City Council, they have been processed “two fines for non-compliance with the schedules of the Spotify Camp Nou remodeling works”. Five days ago, on the night of Thursday the 14th to Friday the 15th of September, the council found workers active in the Les Corts premises: “Between midnight and one “At dawn, an inspection of the works was carried out and activity that was not authorized was detected,” municipal sources specify.

A neighbor who lives next to the Camp Nou was able to record a loaded excavator circulating at one in the morning through the Blaugrana venue, illuminated by a powerful spotlight. As can be heard in the recording, provided to EL PERIÓDICO, the rattling of the machine reached the homes, during hours usually of total quiet in this neighborhood.

The second fine imposed on Barça is the result of another inspection, this one carried out in August, in which “work outside of hours was also detected” permitted by legislation. As a result of the two inspections carried out, “the Urban Police has processed two sanctions that can reach 300 euros each”, points out the council. At the same time, Jaume Collboni’s executive assures that he “works with FC Barcelona to resolve these breaches & rdquor; and advance that “in the next few days” will call the residents of the area to a meeting to clarify any doubts there may be and “give all the explanations” necessary.

In conversation with this medium, the club responds that it is “aware” of these two fines and emphasizes that it is “in conversation at all times with the City Council to improve and be coordinated.” And he adds that “soon” he will open a “round” of meetings with neighborhood associations in the area: “There will be dialogue to resolve any incident.”

Works-alarm clock

As this newspaper explained last Friday and was able to see in situ, the Camp Nou works literally keep Barcelona residents who live near the stadium awake at night. Although local regulations prevent work from starting before 8 a.m. to guarantee residents’ rest, from 7 a.m. onwards, the movement of trucks and cranes and the preparatory maneuvers could already be heard daily without difficulty. The roar of the drilling machines breaks out, of course, at eight o’clock.

“With the heat this summer, the serious thing has been having to have the windows closed: they cannot be opened, because it brings dust and the noise of trucks up and down… It has been hard and it still is,” he lamented. the president of the Camp Nou Neighborhood Association, Ana Ramón, spoke to El Periódico. “The City Council must take measures, if the regulations say that nothing should move before eight, then not a whistle should sound,” she demanded. Fed up with morning disturbances, the neighbors were already collecting signatures and preparing a joint claim to the council.

Opposition movements

Precisely after the publication in this newspaper, the opposition also pressured the socialist government to address the case with those affected. Thus, for example, ERC registered a request addressed to the councilor of Les Corts, David Escudé, to call “within a maximum period of 15 days” a meeting with the residents of the Camp Nou area “to talk and find solutions to the impact that the stadium works have on the environment.”
