He tells, among other things, how Ploegsteert, still his most famous song, almost didn’t even make it. “We almost didn’t even put it on there. It was our second album and the first had not been a great success. The working title of the second album was ‘Not for the radio’. Certainly not for the radio, there was a bit of frustration in. That was actually a very personal record. And then there was one song about a driver. That was going to be strange. I was very satisfied with it. And then we played in ‘De Laatste Show’, a very popular program at the time. It was the first time that we were allowed to perform there in such a program. They had asked if we wanted to play ‘Ier bie oes’, another song. I thought that was a very good choice. And suddenly, at the last minute , they asked if we wanted to play Ploegsteert. And they started editing images of Frank Vandenbroucke on it. And that was actually a genius move by those people. The next day everything was suddenly different.”
