The warning shots on Midden-Brabantweg in Kaatsheuvel were fired by the police on Tuesday because one of the men who wanted to arrest officers did not follow the instructions of the police. A police spokesperson said on Wednesday. According to him, there was a suspicion that the men driving on the Midden-Brabantweg near Kaatsheuvel were in possession of a firearm.
In such a case, officers approach suspects according to the so-called ‘talk-out procedure’, the spokesperson explains. “Police officers pointed their firearms at the car the two were in and ordered them to get out with their hands high. When one of the two men did not listen, two warning shots were fired.”
Moments earlier, the police had received a report from someone who had seen a car driving with two men with a firearm. When officers saw the car that matched the reporter’s description driving, they instructed the driver to stop. Subsequently, the special procedure for suspected firearms was initiated.
According to police, there were no firearms in the car. Because there were no further suspicions against the two, they were released on Tuesday evening. It concerns two Belgians, according to the spokesman.
