Sheremetyevo began to suspend flights amid a special operation in the Donbass

On Thursday morning, February 24, several morning flights were canceled at Sheremetyevo – to Sochi, Simferopol, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Anapa and Hurghada, according to the airport’s online scoreboard. There were also canceled flight from Orenburg, Rostov, Krasnodar and Ulyanovsk, as well as Sharm el-Sheikh. But most flights continue.

The cancellation of flights occurred after President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special operation in the Donbass and the introduction of Russian troops into Ukraine.
The purpose of the operation is to protect people who “are subjected to bullying, genocide by the Kiev regime,” he said.

The suspension of flights is planned only along the border with Ukraine, a source in the Russian aviation authorities told RBC.

RBC sent inquiries to the press services of Sheremetyevo and the Federal Air Transport Agency.
