RKC Waalwijk proved too strong for Vitesse on Saturday evening in Arnhem. The Waalwijkers won 2-0, after a spectacular volley in the last minute of injury time. With this, RKC has booked its first victory of the season.
After a number of failed attempts by the Waalwijkers to get the ball into the goal, the first goal came five minutes before half time. With a hard shot from outside the box, Yassin Oukili gave RKC the lead.
Injury time
In the 59th minute, Vitesse’s Manhoef was sent off the field due to a second yellow card. RKC immediately took advantage of this, because a few minutes later they scored the ball.
But the flag went up and after a VAR decision the score remained 1-0. In the last minute of injury time, Richonell Margaret scored to make it 2-0 with a volley.
On the same level
Thanks to these first three points of the season for RKC, they relinquish the last place in the Eredivisie to Almere City. This puts RKC on level terms with Vitesse, which has a better goal difference and played one match less.
RKC’s next match is on Sunday, September 24; they will then play at home against FC Twente.
