But what is ‘green’ then? VNG looks at low green areas, i.e. grassland, plants, shrubs, but also at trees per neighborhood. If there is a meadow on a street that has an agricultural destination, it will not be included in the study.

Greenest and least green municipality
If we compare the figures of Zoetermeer with the greenest municipality in the Netherlands, there is still some work to be done. The greenest municipality is Vaals in South Limburg with an average percentage of 75.8 percent of greenery. In our living environment, the area of greenery is approximately the same in local municipalities. Higher in Wassenaar (56.9 percent), Rijswijk (48.7 percent) and Delft (39.3 percent), in The Hague (31.6 percent), Leiden (27.3 percent) and Zoeterwoude (31.2 percent). ) lower.
The least green municipality in the Netherlands is Katwijk in South Holland with 20 percent of greenery. Then we have little to complain about in Zoetermeer, right?
