It’s been seven years since the last AC/DC tour. Now it’s possible that their appearance at California’s Power Trip Festival in October could mark the start of a world tour.
The Australian hard rock band teased what to expect from the festival performance with an audio recording on social media in which they rehearse their classic “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)”. AC/DC also announce their line-up under the post.
In addition to bassist Cliff Williams, founding member Angus Young and lead singer Brian Johnson will of course also be on the festival stage. But instead of Phil Rudd, Matt Laug sits on drums. The drummer has already accompanied artists such as Alanis Morissette, Alice Cooper and Slash. A reason for Rudd’s absence has not yet been announced.
According to the British newspaper Daily Star, organizers have been wanting to get the band to tour for a long time. If the appearance at the Power Trip Festival goes well for the band, they will – according to the Daily Star’s source – agree to further concerts next year. All provided that lead singer Brian Johnson can cope with his hearing aid.
When Johnson had to cancel the band’s final tour in 2016, he expected permanent hearing loss. Thanks to a new type of earplug the singer developed with audio expert Stephen Ambrose, he is able to perform without causing further damage to his eardrums. Brian Johnson called the innovation a “revelation” when he used it to record AC/DC’s 2020 record “Power Up!”
