Brings himself into play as a candidate
Felix Magath sees himself as a suitable candidate for the position of national coach and is confident of the task. The German Football Association now needs a coach who is able to rebuild the “completely unsettled national team”, the 70-year-old told “NDR”. “And I think that I (…) am able to lift up unsettled teams and give them so much confidence that they were able to perform very well again,” said the former Bundesliga coach .
Former national player and TV expert Dietmar Hamann had previously discussed Magath as a possible new national coach. “That’s exactly the kind of man we need. And I could imagine that Felix would do that immediately,” said the 50-year-old to the “German Press Agency”. The DFB relieved the previous national coach Hansi Flick of his duties on Sunday, and a team led by sports director Rudi Völler, Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner took over on an interim basis. A Flick successor should be found very soon before the trip to the USA in October.

“I don’t know what requirements profile the DFB has created for this position,” said Magath. “But in my opinion it is clearly the case that we now urgently need someone in football who can put this completely insecure team back together, which is no longer able to match its performance.” He is confident of this task to.
As a coach, Magath became German champion twice with FC Bayern and once with VfL Wolfsburg. Most recently, he took over the then Bundesliga club Hertha BSC in mid-March 2022. He was able to save the Berliners from relegation in the relegation, and then he left the club.
