Even if Borussia Dortmund doesn’t want to hear about it, there is currently whispering around the club about the extent to which the unsuccessful start to the new Bundesliga season is also related to the title trauma of the previous season. BVB professional Julian Ryerson wants to get over the issue and start a new attack on FC Bayern.

A BVB win against Mainz 05 and Football Germany would have finally seen another club win the trophy after FC Bayern’s ten championship titles in a row.

But as is well known, coach Edin Terzic’s protégés lost their nerve in their home Signal Iduna Park, and a 2-2 draw against Rheinhessen was ultimately just not enough to secure first place.

The memorable season finale still has an impact today. “I can’t and don’t want to say that much about it,” said BVB professional Julian Ryerson, initially fending off questions in an interview with club media.

But the Norwegian did provide a few insights into his emotional world. “After the game, like everyone else, I was lost in myself. Sometimes things like that happen. But that was the worst possible moment. That hurt a lot,” admitted Ryerson.

The 25-year-old, who only joined the team in the winter, added that he “tried to put the day away and process it,” but: “I always feel bad when I think about it. It always comes back to me. “

BVB star with a hidden declaration of war on FC Bayern

The events on the last matchday also influence Ryerson’s perception of his first half series at BVB after his move from Union Berlin.

“A lot of people say that I’ve taken a good step personally. I played in the Champions League and had a lot of appearances. But it’s difficult to see it positively because we as a team experienced a huge disappointment in the end,” the defense attorney noted.

At the same time, however, Ryerson also emphasized that he and his teammates had drawn the right conclusions from the setback.

“That can be good for us. We have goals. I continue to believe in them. We have shown that we can attack. […] It’s important to get out of there together. Things are looking good so far,” he said, making a hidden declaration of war on the competition for serial winner FC Bayern.
