There is no Deltacron strain in Russia yet, but there is too little data on this variant of the coronavirus to assess its danger, said Anna Cherkashina, head of the scientific group for genetic engineering and biotechnology at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.

Earlier media reported that a hybrid of delta and omicron strains had appeared in Britain. Cherkashina stressed that it is not present on the territory of the Russian Federation, there is not enough data on it for conclusions and forecasts. Most likely, its properties will be due to mutations in the S-protein, which are responsible for infectivity. So the hybrid may be closer to the omicron strain. RIA News.

It has previously been suggested that the Omicron strain of the coronavirus will displace the delta strain. But there is a possibility that the delta will remain in remote regions of Russia. Thus, experts pointed out that in early February only isolated cases of “delta” were noted, and “omicron” became the main strain in Russia. The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, considered that the anti-epidemic measures introduced due to the coronavirus could be softened in cultural institutions, catering and fitness clubs. But Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is still of the opinion that the coronavirus has not yet been defeated, maybe emergence of new mutations.
