Croatian national soccer player Borna Sosa is leaving VfB Stuttgart and joining Dutch Europa League participants Ajax Amsterdam.
The transfer was confirmed by the Swabians late in the evening after the end of the change period in Germany.
According to dpa information, the transfer fee for the full-back should be between eight and ten million euros. Former VfB sports director Sven Mislintat has been working as technical director in Amsterdam since this spring.
Sosa has played in Stuttgart since 2018. The 25-year-old has been one of the top performers for the Swabians, but has repeatedly been considered a change candidate in recent years. He was not in the starting line-up for VfB in any competitive matches this season.
Third prominent departure at VfB Stuttgart
“He’s one of the defining faces of recent years,” said sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth about the third-placed player from the past World Cup in Qatar, who signed a contract in Amsterdam until 2028. “Borna has told us several times in the past few months that he wants to change and is now taking this step after five years. From a sporting point of view, complying with his wish was again a very tough compromise, which we ultimately accepted because of Borna’s services to VfB Stuttgart. “
Sosa’s contract with VfB originally ran until June 30, 2025. After Japanese Wataru Endo (Liverpool FC) and Greek Konstantinos Mavropanos (West Ham United), he is the third prominent player to leave Stuttgart this summer.
