Three dead in head-on collision with ambulance in Bavaria | Abroad

Three people died on Wednesday in a collision between an ambulance and a car near Geslau, in the southern German state of Bavaria, a police spokeswoman reported on Wednesday.

Two people died on the spot, while a third person died in hospital not long after.

According to the police, the ambulance had driven against traffic for unclear reasons and collided head-on with the car. An 89-year-old female patient, who would have been in the back of the ambulance, died on the spot. The 79-year-old female passenger in the car also died at the scene of the accident, the spokesman said. The 69-year-old driver of the car succumbed to his serious injuries in hospital.

The two paramedics, a 22-year-old behind the wheel and a 19-year-old, suffered serious injuries, according to the report.

The police started an investigation.
